Poem About Failed Relationships: When It's Time To Say Goodbye And Move On
73
When things go sour, they seem to spiral
With a rapidity that leaves you stunned in denial
How could things have been so perfect today
Only to plunge into near total dismay
Life is short; we think we know
How bonds will last and continue to grow
Caught unaware by life’s little bubbles
We find ourselves in relationship troubles
Whether friend, family, or intimate lover
All too soon, we find, yes, it’s over
Most people don’t see it coming
As they rush through life humming
Hoping for better days, wishing for good
All along might we have looked if we could
Why do we go through life only to find
To an inevitable outcome we’ve been blind
We know deep down one’s faults and strengths
But we tend to ignore them even to great lengths
We see the pattern begin to unravel
But relationship rocks we fear to travel
Life is a path of many stones aligned
Each one bringing us to a point in time
Reaching a deadend it behooves us to ask
Can I find peace, am I up to the task
Forging new paths, leaving things behind
Is part of the process to reach peace of mind
Sometimes it hurts much more than we thought
But things considered, new hope is sought
Life’s journey is a sum of the whole
What you want by the end is your soul
Sometimes we pick well, sometimes so badly
Things that worked once can end up quite sadly
All you can figure from the whole ordeal
It was meant as part of the roulette wheel
When things go off course and you see it clearly
It doesn’t mean you did not love dearly
The means to an end, a learning chance
One more song in life’s long, long dance
How do compliments turn to assaults
Talents now being recounted as faults
It seems to have happened without a reason
But the saying is ‘to everything there’s a season’
Whatever the reason for hurtful displays
It becomes obvious you need to part ways
Life is a ride, no guarantees in sight
All we can do is what we think right
Making the most of today’s the clue
Even if it means having to say ‘adieu’
Why would you ask what is the matter
We need be done with all this chatter
Life is too short to sputter and fight
It matters not who’s wrong or right
Times change, things end, people are wiser
Sometimes moving on is the great equalizer
Good and bad I still value the time
When we were and even were not in rhyme
Nothing’s in vain I truly believe
Look back on things and do not grieve
We are always better for the run
Can’t change it anyhow once said and done
We can’t edit out the cold and the crappy
What matters most now is to be happy
When things fall apart, don’t look back
Face forward; find the right track

- Poem: A Rhyme For Griffin The Malamute
I often marvel at you folks who are so good at poetry and when I read what others write, I never have been able to see myself ever possibly writing a poem. That said, I woke up this morning early before the...

This is well written and too painfully true, I don't want this to be true though.:( I wrote a poem about my recent loss and the words in this one hit home with a truth I dare not believe. :(
the first poem has been the most helpful tool I have had in moving on from codependent failed relationships I even use it in my therapy, I would appreciate reading the end verses and request permission. Thank you
And a poet too? Very nice.
so true, i liked this very much. i recently posted a poem as well called Puzzle Pieces about ending a recent relationship and saying goodbye to him. I think i will follow you. Great stuff :)
Great poem! Thank you....

'When things fall apart, don’t look back
Face forward; find the right track' I need to learn this lesson as I am no fighter. Hey that's pretty good rhyming Audrey. A lot here to contemplate, and I shall, rated up dear as alway, much love, CC
Wonderful, and I think it is my time thank you so much for this mind provoking experience...thumbs up
A poet, too?? Very inspirational.
"When things fall apart, don’t look back
Face forward; find the right track"
such a hard thing to do sometimes, but its really the only way to keep going forward. This is a great poem, keep it up!!
Aha! A poet no less :-)
Nice poem. It says so much about life.
I didn't know you were a poet. Very nice. And it's true - sometimes we find ourselves thrown onto a new road and all we can do is decide which direction to go in.
