How To Work At Home And Make Money Online

Updated on August 29, 2012

HOW TO MAKE MONEY WITHOUT LEAVING HOME

With the numbers on unemployment climbing daily, the number of jobs dwindling and the applicants for these jobs multiplying by the hundreds, if not thousands, are there ways to make money without leaving home?

Maybe you already have a job and need to make more money....or you're out of work completely and can't find a job....or you're a student looking for a part-time job.

Are there ways to supplement your income that don't cost an arm and a leg to drive to?

Are there jobs out there that might pay at least minimum wage without all the extra time of commuting?

More and more people are turning to the Internet to supplement their incomes.

More and more people who are currently out of work are turning to the Internet to try and find some source of income!

More and more college students today are looking for extra sources of income while pursuing their educational studies.

The problem in most cases when trying to find ways to make extra income is time. The time we have to devote to making more money at traditional jobs that sometimes pay relatively little in terms of wages while taking up that precious entity.....both commuting and working.

How to strike a balance between making money and maximizing time thus giving us more opportunities to live the rest of our every day life?

There is a solution that's becoming more and more popular and you don't even have to leave home to do it. It's all Internet based!

Let's investigate some of the opportunities to work from home and make money. Whether you're already employed, you're a student looking for extra work, or your currently unemployed looking at your options...there are things you can do to work online.

WAYS TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE

  • Sell your computer skills.  There are millions of people out there who have programs that they can't use because they don't want to spend hundreds of dollars taking a class online or at a local campus.  Consequently, they become frustrated with not knowing how to maximize their use of programs.  Would they be willing to have a concise tutoring session or several to teach them just what they need to know to do their job?  You bet!

If you have skills with a program like Power Point or Quick Books, Turbo Tax or Quicken, advertise on Craigslist or other internet sites like Kijiji.  Put ads in a newspaper or post cards on bulletin boards around town or on campuses.

You'd be surprised how many people are just waiting to find an affordable solution to learning programs!  Post cards or notices at Worksource or unemployment offices...you'd be surprised how many calls you'll get.
  • Become a tutor.  If you have skills that you feel you can teach to others via the Internet, check out some of the online tutoring websites like tutor.com or e-tutor or smart thinking.  You can get a job online tutoring people in all kinds of things and again, you don't have to leave home.

The only requirement is that you have to be available at specific hours to do the tutoring but you set your own limits as far as hours go.  You can work as little or as much as you want once you get into the programs and start tutoring.  You'll never know how good you are at teaching until you try!
  • Online merchandising.  Whether you just sell your own junk that's cluttering up your home or garage, or if you go crazy and start picking up free stuff on Craigslist or cheap stuff at garage sales or estate sales and reselling it, there's money to be made on sites like eBay and Craigslist.

With a little ingenuity and a lot of time, you can even open your own online store on eBay and then direct people from your items on Craigslist to your eBay store.  There are many tutorials and helpful videos to get you started selling or reselling on eBay and Craigslist.  If you have the determination to do it, you can make a lot of money.  Just make sure you follow the rules as if you don't, you'll get banned from the sites and not make any money at all.

MORE WAYS TO EARN MONEY ONLINE

  • Write for a living.  There are many websites today that offer Adsense monies and Amazon partnerships for instance.  You can make money online as a writer if you know how to write but more importantly if you know what to write about!

You can make good money doing it.  However, an important point to make about being an online writer is to not overkill any subject whether it's a poem or a "how to save money" article.  People on the internet spend roughly 45 seconds on a page and if you haven't caught them in that space of time, they're off to someone else's page.  You can sell articles on sites or become a free lance writer - it never hurts to try.  Check out the many places to do online writing and what they all involve....or sign up to write on hubpages here.
  • Boring yet profitable online work.  You can resign yourself to not doing very exciting work but getting a paycheck.  There’s nothing really wrong with that.  It all depends on your frustration level or your desire to make money any way you can.  Some people do well at it, other people it bores to death within a week.

Some samples of online work for pay are doing online surveys.  Many companies also outsource emails that need to be read and/or answered.  Investigate online survey sites and see what they require and most importantly what they offer in terms of payout.  Project Payday is another online source of work though you have to go through the setup and watch the instructional videos to get started.  However, it's possible to make money doing it.....and you don't have to be brilliant to do it!
  • Online jury trials.  You can find online jury trials and be a guinea pig for up and coming lawyers.  Money paid is generally based on the complexity of the cases or the time involved.  Check it out at places like ejury and TrialJuries.com.  You can make money from your office chair and probably learn something about the justice system along the way!

ONLINE JOBS AND HOW TO WORK AT HOME

In short, there are several things you can do to make money without ever leaving your home.

Of course, if you're in a field that has telecommuting available, this is the best possible scenario.

For instance, working as a medical transcriptionist or a medical coder are perfect telecommuting jobs.

You save money on wardrobe, commute time, car wear and tear, public transportation costs and fuel costs.

You usually can work hours that are more convenient for you although sometimes schedules are set by the employer.

Whatever you can do to work from home is a great money saver so figure in that factor if you feel that you're making less money than you would at a "real job".

Factoring in convenience and ease of work should count for something and even if you're not making top dollar, making something of something is better than making nothing of nothing I always say.

Give it a thought and check out other online work sites.

Just type in "online jobs" and see where it takes you.  But beware of scams and especially beware of any job on line or otherwise that asks you to pay money to make money.

Happy online job hunting!
