Buying appliances can be a huge expense, whether you're replacing ones or buying new ones for a home you're moving into.
When purchasing or upgrading appliances if you're moving into a new home, this can be an expensive and exasperating addition as new home costs spiral upwards.
There is hope though. There are many ways that you can save money on appliances for any given situation.
Let's look at some ways you can save money buying appliances and the best ways to go about getting bargains.
TIPS ON SAVING MONEY ON APPLIANCES
Use it or lose it. Don't be shy in letting sales people know if you're buying a new home that you want to get your own appliances. Or if you have appliances already, negotiate building spaces for them and make sure they know you want your own appliances rather than those that might come with the home.....for a price. Generally, appliances are always marked up for what the contractor buys them for so it might be a good idea to do your own shopping and get the best deal you can on your own. Your home's price will be lessened by the cost of the appliances and you'll find that you can purchase good quality appliances on your own and save money.
GETTING TOP QUALITY APPLIANCES FOR LESS
Upgrade if buying a new home. Conversely, if the home you're buying new does include appliances and the cost is reasonable but the appliances are of low value, consider the cost of upgrading. Pay the difference of what it would cost to have a lower quality dishwasher put in and upgrade to a better, energy efficient model that will last longer and save you money in the long run. Having to replace appliances after a few years is a terrible expense and aggravation so get the best that you can afford going in.
Shop online. Some of the best deals in the world on appliances are online. Look for ones with free shipping but you can order just about anything on the Internet and have it shipped to your door!
Discount warehouses. Visit places like Costco or other discount warehouse stores. You can find all manner of appliances for great deals but do your homework before you shop anywhere. Know the brands, their energy efficiency and then know the models and their top and low price ranges.
Newspapers and garage sales. Don't be afraid to look in the paper or drop by garage sales or swap meets. You never know what treasures you might find. Maybe you're just looking for a chest freezer to put into the garage for stocking up. You might find the deal of the century and have that much more money left over for other appliances. Buying used is a great way to save money. Just be sure you're getting a good deal and an appliance that is in good repair.
Scratch and dent. Don't forget to check in outlet stores that deal in appliances or scratch and dent stores. If the scratches or dents don't show, what's the difference? You can save between 40% and 70% on appliances this way. Also consider buying floor models.
You better shop around. This is the single most important factor of buying anything. Shop sales, get prices from at least 5 different places and price compare. Energy efficiency compare and again, look on line. Why pay more than you have to for anything? If you find a good deal at one store but like perhaps the fact that another store offers you no-interest and you can pay it off in 12 months, then negotiate to get the store you like to meet the other store's price.
You don't have to have the latest models. Some of the slimmed down models without all the fancy gizmos are way less than the top of the line models...or consider last year's models. Consider not getting an icemaker on your next refrigerator. Do you know how much space that takes up and how much more it adds to the price of the refrigerator? Do your homework and pick out the best models for the cheapest price.

Budgeting and no-interest loans. These are very important factors to consider. You should have a ceiling of what you are willing to spend for each appliance. Don't go over that! No matter what! Let self-discipline kick in. After all, they are only appliances. You need them to be energy efficient and serviceable but it's not like you'll be driving them around town. If you opt for a no-interest loan with a payoff time, make sure you stick to it. Set aside the money each and every paycheck and pay it off. No letting a payment go by and no letting it roll over into interest time. You won't save any money at all if you buy on time with interest.
Check out rebates. Ask about the Energy Star Rebate program through your electric company and find out about rebates or discounts on energy efficiency appliances. Look for Energy Star appliances. This can save you money on specific models and even if you have to mail in a form for a rebate, it's money back in your pocket.
Buy during the best times. Some experts say the best months to buy appliances are September or October but also play the sales, watch for discounts, or even go on line to appliance websites and see if they are offering rebates or coupons.
On-line social networks. Don't rule out Craigslist and other sites on line. You never know what you'll turn up. You could end up purchasing a fridge locally that will save you hundreds of dollars.
Benefits of renting. If you're a renter, make sure appliances are included. This will save you tons of money and you won't have to lug your appliances around with you once you leave for better digs!

Check Consumer Reports or other ratings on appliances before you buy and consider later models or appliances without all the bells and whistles. You pay for those in the long run and when all you need is energy efficiency and reliability, why spend money on things you don't really need?
Always get the best price and you'll be able to pat yourself on the back and say "job well done."
Most importantly, know your budget limits and don't impulse buy. Take time to consider if the appliance is really what you need or want and is it truly the best deal before purchasing.

And the Energy efficient appliances do save big bucks. I moved inot a new home last year. bigger home and then supplied with the Energy appliances. I'm saving over $200 on heat and electric each month. That may sound like little, but that's $24,000 in a decade. I enjoyed this very much.
