A Loving Father's Day Poem For My Husband: What A Father Should Be

Father's Day Poem

Dedicated again to Bob - thanks for the wonderful ride!

Here is my second Father's Day poem for you.

So often when I’m out and about

I see dads and kids and I remember

It seems like yesterday – us holding them like that

Bob leaning in to talk to them and soothe them just so

I remember days we traveled to this place and that

Bringing picnics, friends, kids, family, dogs in tow

We splashed, we fished, we walked, we hiked

We danced, we dreamed, we saw beautiful sights

We loved, we played, we joked, we laughed

All of it seems so far behind now yet somehow

It is all still there as fresh in my mind as if it were yesterday

I would go back one thousand times to live it all again

It was the best part of my life – the blending, the loving

The family we created, the love we all have now

It is just too bad that it all went by so fast

Because I would give anything to live every second

All over again!

Buckwheat, you'll get to almost relive all those wonderful moments with grandkids! Your poem made me tear up. That song "Where are you going, my little one" played through my head the whole time I was reading!

akirchner - of all the things we do, the time spent with family is best and creates the loveliest memories. Beautiful poem.

Ah yes - wouldn't that be grand? Our oldest probably won't have kids and then our middle guy with the eye thing...although he will be a terrific dad (he had the best teacher ever). Kate we are waiting on but no rush - I guess I have my pups in the meantime to practice on. And Bob is a wonderful 'dad' to them too!

Hi again, I keep nagging my son to get married, but he never does! I just want him to have some kids so I can be granny! lol Nell

It never goes away does it, girlie? I think we probably need grandchildren or need to adopt...I say it and poor Bob goes white in the face but truly, truly, I've never felt so complete.

Hi, Audrey, a lovely poem, and I know what you mean about wanting to do it all again. I know my situation is different now, but when my son was small it was brilliant, we went everywhere and did loads of things. thanks nell
