Let Your Tunes Work For You

If you want to get the most from your workout, try this little tip on how to get your tunes organized to keep you 'up to speed'. Here are 3 tips to get you started.

  • Select a target BPM (beats per minute) that you want to exercise at (depending on what form of exercise you are doing)
  • Analyze which songs meet the BPM rate desired
  • Organize your tunes in play lists for the BPM level you want - or make several play lists with different BPM levels - like one for jogging, one for walking, one for cool down.

Organizing your workout music to a specific beat might sound regimented but on the other hand, keeping the music at a certain rate or cadence encourages you to continue the workout at the same level and is an excellent way to keep your heart rate at the desired level - no matter what kind of workout you are doing.

iPHONE CADENCE PHONE APP

This little gadget really simplifies it to the max! It is the cadence application on the iPhone - you know the commercial - there's an app for that. Well, here it is.

You can increase or decrease the cadence to the desired BPM just with the touch of a finger! Pretty unbelievable and pretty simple.

Exercise EKG That Shows Beats Per Minute Heart Rate

BPM Calculation in iTunes

In my iTunes program, I have the option of selecting BPM to be displayed (see photos). I then go back in and select the ones that match whatever BPM I want for what form of exercise, and then make a play list from those songs. I then name each play list according to the exercise that I'm going to be doing with those songs such as Walking, Biking, etc.

Exactly - I would wear my IPOD at swim aerobics if I could because when I do anything and listen to it, I work faster and exercise harder. I house clean usually to Tina Turner - nothing gets my windows done faster! I love music anyhow and think it is a wonderful time-passer to use when exercising especially if you have at your disposal many upbeat tunes! I keep adding more to my IPOD too - I can never have too many!

This is a great tip, I ride my stationary bike five miles everyday and I noticed when I listen to my iPod I burn more calories, ride longer distances and my heart rate is higher longer and plus my speed is faster... Oh La La the gift of good tunes. Upbeat! I love the bikes you feature in this hub. It's a great way to burn fat, tone muscle and keep you heart fit!
